Job Description

Position Purpose

Under the direction of the Manager or Director and in conjunction with the Shared Governance Council, this position is accountable for directing and coordinating the delivery of patient care and the general functioning of the nursing unit. The Supervisor of Infusion is to assist in achievement of organizational goals through and with the effort of others.

Nature and Scope

This is a clinically focused position that maintains a well-organized and functional Outpatient Infusion Clinics and allows for the enhancement of evidenced based practice and continuity of patient care throughout the healthcare continuum. The Nurse Supervisor coordinates care and collaborates with other professional disciplines as needed to optimize patient outcomes. The oncology treatment centers are outpatient, hospital-based infusion centers that provides cancer therapies to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patents as well as infusion services for non-oncology patients.

Acts as a role model, resource, and coach to all nursing staff to provide ongoing support for professional development, maintenance of the standards of care and quality outcomes.

Facilitates professional relationships between physicians, nursing, and interdisciplinary teams to provide a patient focused plan of care.

Requires leadership skills and flexibility to adjust hours to be a resource to Staff. The Nurse Supervisor will be responsible for engaging the nursing staff to provide evidence-based practice, promoting desired patient outcomes, and ensuring that practice is congruent with the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics.

Technological advances dictate that the Nurse Supervisor is well versed in procedures common to the department or unit served. In addition, proficiency in the techniques of leadership and adult learning theories are necessary to coordinate the activities of all health team members, and to maintain positively engaged, competent nursing staff.

Requires extensive knowledge of chemotherapy and, through a triage process assures intravenous chemotherapy orders are accurate and appropriately authorized in a timely manner. Collaborating with referring/ordering physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers. Renown Medical Group, Medical Oncology Clinic, Radiation Oncology Clinic, Research, and pharmacy leadership to assure accurate, timely and up-to-date chemotherapy policies, procedures, and processes.

Possess analytical skills, which allows him/her to feel comfortable with responsibility digesting complex ideas, weighing different positions, and developing solid reasoning to defend choices made.

Provides guidance and mentoring of the infusion scheduling and authorization team, to ensure smooth flow of operations and communication between patients,

payors, vendors, clinical teams and internal stakeholders thorough review and process of referrals and/or orders in a timely manner.

Other challenges of this position include the ability to recognize dynamics of change and respond appropriately within the context of accepted current theory. Creativity and innovation are expected from the incumbent to help staff function as a high-performance work team and to promote staff retention.

Is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and families. This position must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensory, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the unit/department Competence with Special Populations standard.

Minimum Qualifications

Description

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. BSN or related bachelor's degree preferred, or pursuit of a bachelor's degree upon hire.

Experience:

Two years' experience as a Staff RN required three years oncology nursing experience preferred.

License(s):

Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license.

State of Nevada Point of Care Analyst POCA license required within 120 days of hire.

Certification(s):

Current AHA BLS certification by American Heart Association standards required. Oncology Certified Nurse: Chemotherapy certification (Current Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy/Biotherapy provider card) required within 90 days of hire.

Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification is required within two (2) years of hire.

Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
