OverviewAs part of the Cloud Operations + Innovations (CO+I) organization, the Energy Markets team supports datacenter interconnection and energy supply contracts with utilities and third-party suppliers. Additionally, the team leads regulatory and policy strategy development with utilities, regulators, and stakeholders important to datacenter and clean energy infrastructure delivery. All of this is done in support of Microsoft's long-term 100/100/0 vision - that on all the world's grids, 100 percent of electrons, 100 percent of the time are generated from zero carbon sources. As a Sr. Energy Regulatory Program Manager, Cloud Operations + Innovations, you will establish, lead, and implement an energy regulatory program that enables the Energy Markets team to develop and negotiate electric tariffs that are cost effective, while also enabling access to a reliable and decarbonized electric infrastructure. This program will also empower the U.S. Energy Markets Team to effectively engage in electric rate proceedings, integrated resource planning processes, and local and regional transmission organizations. The candidate will work closely with U.S. utilities, other large commercial and industrial electricity consumers, electric rate regulators, and other relevant stakeholders. The Sr. Energy Regulatory Program Manager, Cloud Operations + Innovations will work closely with Microsoft's Corporate External and Legal Affairs teams. This role will support our Data Center Energy Markets teams in the United States (Eastern, Central, or Western regions). ResponsibilitiesLead a comprehensive and strategic assessment of the energy regulatory environment impacting Microsoft's U.S. data center energy portfolio including electric tariff, rates, and pricing, energy market design, power market trends, and electric institutional frameworks to define risk and quantify long-term power cost impacts.Establish a U.S. electric regulatory program designed to deliver on Microsoft's energy infrastructure needs including optimized power costs, power market flexibility, and access to reliable and decarbonized power systems.Define, standardize, and scale Microsoft's U.S. priorities in electric rates and tariffs that are cost effective, support the need for advanced carbon free technologies, and that provide flexibility for additional features that optimizes future electric grid attributes.Define regulatory advocacy priorities with electric regulators, other large commercial and industrial electricity consumers, and coalitions that are critical to Microsoft's energy delivery needs.Work cross-functionally with Corporate External and Legal Affairs, Finance, Risk, and other infrastructure, planning, and acquisitions teams to enable and empower success.Embody our Culture and Values
